Poetry Happening Near You

What's new for May?

Recommended Reads and The Poetry Competition.

The Poetry on Loan poetry competition is now open again for entries.  All the information you need is up on the competition page.  If you've never entered a competition before this a great one to go for.  It's open to anybody living in the wider West Midlands and it's free to have a go.  We've got a special prize for a 'Fresh Poet' so we're actively encouraging those people who perhaps don't usually share their work to put themselves forward.  We also have a young person's category. The theme is 'Refuge' which is line with the chosen theme for National Poetry Day. Good luck if you decide to enter you've got until 1st September to get your poems over to us.

The Recommended Reads leaflets and posters have also gone out.  These have been specially designed for us by Gregory Fisk.  They feature 10 poetry books that have been chosen by library staff and the Poetry on Loan team.  We think there is something for everyone.  There are anthologies, works in translation, collections by local writers and nationally acclaimed writers.  We'll be sharing information about the books we've selected over the coming months via social media.  Look out for leaflets and do get in touch and let us know which of the recommendations you've enjoyed.

Here at Poetry on Loan we're constantly responding to requests from libraries to put on events and we'll be updating the website soon with the forthcoming plans as they are finalised.
